Heart of Flame

I am losing feeling in my hands

A subtle bitter edge

To a clear night like tonight

I imagine the shock

Icy fingertips stretched out

Soaking warmth from the fireplace

Imagine icy fingertips touching my face

It is so pure

Little clouds of fog from my mouth

Setting free my heat into the world

They catch the light of streetlamps

Dissipate into the morning mists

Each inhale steals a little more away

Stars blink coldly down at me

Standing alone on the sidewalk

My bones ache from the loss

Of my warmth

Of my heat

The fire has long since died

Fingertips turning pale

How long will it take to freeze

Without you

How long will it take to lie down

Give up

Your heart of flame is gone from me

There is no one left

To make my heart melt
