Beautiful Sailors

Believe in the endless night

Rippling expanses of salty

Water and the lapping

Against the hull

The moon is scraped slowly

Away by unseen hands

Headed quietly to oblivion

The sea responds in parallel

Stars shimmer icily down

They will show you the path

But they will not save you

Should you touch the depths

And here I stand

And you on another weathered

Deck on the waves

We send flashes across the

Distances

Unspoken words said in

The clacking of shutters and

Flickering of lights

We are travelling in parallel

I see your shape and your light

You see mine

Only the size of it all keeps

Our courses separate

Angry waters and unforgiving skies

Believe in the endless night

In the darkness of a new moon

All its shine scraped away

Light is only seen from you

The flickering shutter between

Ragged waves

And the lighthouse ashore

Out of sight for months

Blazing to an empty horizon

Come ashore, beautiful sailors

Come home
