An Era of Living

Here’s another era

Of living

A newer one

You asked me today

In your sideways way

Do you like good food?

Here, I made you some

Are we friends, after everything?

Thank you for all the

Well-wishes and patience

I think we met when we

Were both angry

That can’t be undone

Though I watched you

Singing off-key and we

Grinned stupidly

And I wish I got to see more

Of your passion

Here’s an old era

Of living

I had thought maybe

It’s better to leave that

Behind

But I forgot

How it’s like breathing

Driving to the park and

Telling you how

I have learned of my changes

This is the newer me

More defined around the edges

And we met so

Long ago it feels like

Forever

And I hope you don’t feel

Forgotten

I’ve just been so tired

Or too busy

Or blind

Some people don’t stay

I suppose I thought that

Of everyone

Life is mercurial and

Occasionally petty

But some people do stay

Even if we never talk you are

Never far away
