The Only Interpreter

All at once I try to move with intent

And surrender to the waters of life

Every step a prayer and a promise

Every step further into the depths

Tonight I wonder if these things

Are one and the same

My path I feel I have been scrambling

To keep beneath me

More slippery than a seal

Except when the gods watch

My reticent muses like stars

Ever present, yet left unseen

They shower me with glimmering fantasies

Golden cities and peace

Intimacy without fear

Things I only wish were true

And leave me in the harsher morning

Hours, to face the raging storm

I see it from here, beneath their watchful

Gazes, facets of the universe twisting

Sparkling in some unknown light

And from this I shape my truths and my art

Building cities of paper instead of gold

Written and composed, decorated in color

Finding peace in the chaos

Despite the chaos

Become the stillest of souls

A quiet anchor in the whirlwind

The gods calm at my touch

As I am their only interpreter

They speak through me, their thoughts

Gushing from my mind, my mouth

Perhaps together we can make

Something clear of the disorder
