Sea Glass
Worn around the edges
Like sea glass
Transparent once, and tinted
Some odd color
The greens and browns of
Beer bottles smashed
Swept out by the tide
White pieces once clear
The rare and coveted
Blues and reds
Imagine that life
Hammered into the sand
Beneath meters of water
Unpredictable and tempestuous
Thrown with rock, shell and bone
Against each other
Until smooth
Edgeless and soft
And eventually tossed ashore
A sound like rain as the tide retreats
To be taken away
Or returned to the waters
