Let Us All Be Young

Let me be young, I suppose

It’s like asking the ocean to be still

Unobtainable, against some universal flow

Except in frozen moments

Those brief yet infinite seconds between

Words, strung one after another, and

The calm

I will think about the pause after the words

The meeting of eyes across the table

If we brush elbows we say nothing

Too busy living to be self-

Conscious,

To be anything but alive

And I come away thinking maybe

I look to the stars and the void between them

Hope that there may always be something

Like this

To let me be young

To let us all be young
