Moon Shining

If you’ve ever seen the

Moon shine on the water

You’ll know what I felt

Tonight

The heavy scent of  brine and

Seaweed brought me back

To a recent memory

Lobster tanks full of salt

And on my seat at the bar I watch

People shucking oysters

Share dessert

You tell me this was a

Place you and your

Sailor friend

Went all the time

I think of him now when

I smell ocean on the air

But I think of you

When the moon shines on water

And if I had gone alone

I would have stood on the edge

Leaned against the railing

Wished every moment spent with

The waves crashing on the cliffs

The lighthouse blinking

The half-made moon above

The song in the background

From my car behind me drowning

Out the melancholy

Wish you had seen it

Wish I could have frozen that

Moment a little longer

Moon shining on the water

But I am not alone

And I drive home in the dark

Yet I am smiling, for this

This is good too
